Newsdesk: President Emmanuel Macron on Friday called for an end to "conflicts" in the region, underscoring France's vision of closer ties with countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Macron made the call while attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Bangkok. APEC consists of 21 powerful countries in Asia Pacific. He is seeking to reactivate France's strategic ties to the region in the face of growing US-China competition. The French president told a gathering of business leaders on the sidelines of the conference, "France wants to play a role in avoiding conflict and restoring stability in the region." "We don't believe in hegemony, we don't believe in conflict, we believe in stability," Macron said. Macron also said, "The international community is facing overlapping crises from climate change to economic recession and a concerted effort is needed to address it." He said, "Our Indo-Pacific strategy in this situation is to create a dynamic balance." Identifying Russia's war in Ukraine as a major source of global unrest, Macron said it was "a very bad deed that must be recognized by all countries in Asia and elsewhere."
