International Desk: At least 25 people were killed when a bus carrying a groom fell into a ditch in India. The accident took place near Simdi village in Uttarakhand's Pauri Garhwal on Tuesday (October 4) night. It is said that there were more than 40 passengers in the bus. News from NDTV.

News agency ANI reported that 21 passengers were rescued alive by the State Disaster Response Force and police in an overnight operation. The injured have been admitted to a local hospital.

State police chief Ashok Kumar shared a video footage of the rescue operation at the accident site on Twitter. It was seen that the injured passengers were taken to a safe place.

Earlier, Haridwar police chief Swattan Kumar Singh said the bus carrying the groom had left from Laldhang and later met with an accident.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief by calling this accident 'heartbreaking'. A tweet from his office (PMO) quoted the Prime Minister as saying, "The bus accident in Uttarakhand is heartbreaking." My condolences to the bereaved families at this sad time. Hope those injured get well soon. Rescue operations are underway. All possible assistance will be provided to the victims.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also expressed condolences for the victims of the accident. He said that the state government stands by the victim's families.
