22 years after the murder of a businessman in Pabna, four people have been sentenced to life imprisonment

Tofazzal Hossain Babu, Pabna: The court sentenced the four accused to life imprisonment after 22 years of kidnapping and killing a sand trader named Alauddin alias Alal in Bhandara of Sadar Upazila of Pabna. At the same time, the accused were ordered to be imprisoned for one more year without paying a fine of 25,000 taka. On the other hand, the court acquitted two people as they were proved innocent. Judge Ahsan Tarek of the Special District and Sessions Judge Court of Pabna announced the verdict on Monday (September 19) afternoon. The lawyer for the state side in the court was Special PP Advocate Dewan Majnul Haque, Advocate Shafiqul Islam Sumon was for the accused. The sentenced accused are Jahangir Hasan son of deceased Chalim Uddin of Sujanagar upazila, Kalam Sheikh son of Abdul Gani Sheikh of Bhabanipur village, Nazrul Islam son of Akbar Sheikh of Aurangabad village of Bhandara and Rabiul Islam Rabi son of Abul Kashem of Bahirchar of Sadar upazila. Among the accused, Jahangir Hasan and Rabiul Islam Rabi were present in the court while the other two are absconding. Later the court sent Jahangir and Ravi to jail. Deceased Alauddin alias Alal is the son of deceased Yunus Ali of Aurangabad area of ​​Bhandara Union. He was a sand trader by profession. Accused Jahangir Hasan had a long acquaintance with Alal because of the sand business. According to the affidavit of the case, there was a dispute between them regarding business transactions. In that dispute, Jahangir called Alauddin alias Alal, who was killed along with other accused, from his house on Thursday morning, August 3, 2000. Later he was killed and thrown into the Padma river at nearby Chartarapur point. Three days after the incident, his body was recovered from the Padma river. Anisur Rahman, the uncle of Alal who was killed in this incident filed a murder case at Pabna Sadar Police Station as the plaintiff. Although Jahangir was initially acquitted in this case, the police issued a charge sheet against 6 people including Jahangir for the second time against the plaintiff's objection. After 12 witnesses and a long legal process, the court gave this verdict today. Advocate Shafiqul Islam Sumon said, "The prosecution has failed to prove the crime against the accused, the court has given this verdict based only on the charge sheet. As a result, my clients were deprived of justice. We will appeal to the higher court. Hope we get justice there. However, Special PP Advocate Dewan Majnul Haque expressed satisfaction with the verdict. He said, "The guilt of the accused has been proved. As a result, the court gave them appropriate punishment. I think justice has been established through this.
