9 killed in wall collapse in Lucknow

International Desk: At least nine people died when a wall collapsed due to heavy rains in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. Two others were injured in the incident. The accident happened on Wednesday (September 15) local time. Lucknow Police Joint Commissioner of Police Ain Piyush Mordia told news agency PTI that some workers were living in huts outside an army camp in Dilkusha area. The boundary wall of the army camp collapsed due to heavy overnight rains. We reached the spot around 3 pm. Nine bodies were pulled from the wreckage and one was rescued alive. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the dead and Rs 2 lakh for the treatment of the injured. Lucknow has received 155 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. Lucknow receives an average of 197 mm of rain in September.
