News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Moitri Power Plant built at Rampal in Bagerhat district. Rupsa Rail Bridge was also inaugurated on the same occasion. These two projects were inaugurated virtually on the second day of Sheikh Hasina's visit to India on Tuesday (September 6) during the meeting of the two heads of government at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. India's Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said these things in a tweet. Bangladesh India Friendship Power Company Limited is setting up the coal based plant which is considered as the largest power plant in Bangladesh. India's Exim Bank is providing a major portion of the construction cost of the 1,320 MW power plant worth $1.5 billion. The name of the project is 'Maitri Super Thermal Power Project'. The construction of this project started in 2017. The project started in 2010 with land acquisition. Two years later, construction officially began. Environmentalists have been opposing the construction of the power plant since the beginning. On the other hand, the construction of the railway bridge on Rupsa river from Khulna to Mongla was completed in July this year with the loan of the Government of India. As a result of this bridge, there will be a lot of convenience in transporting goods from Khulna to Mongla. The total length of this bridge including the connecting railway line is 5.13 km, but the length of the main railway bridge is 716 meters. The construction materials of this bridge made of steel are imported from India by road, sea and inland waterways.
