Gazi Mazharul is a 'legend' of Bangladesh: Mirza Fakhrul

News Desk: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has commented that Gazi Mazharul Anwar is a 'legend' of Bangladesh. BNP Secretary General made this comment to the journalists present at the United Hospital in Gulshan on Sunday (September 4).

Mirza Fakhrul said, it would be wrong to call Gazi Mazharul Anwar only a lyricist, he is a legend of the country. A creative artist, whose pen has created many wonderful songs and poems in this country. I'm a bit emotional. My personal relationship with him was very close. I can't accept that he is gone. We have lost a very talented man.

Expressing grief over the death of Gazi Mazharul, BNP Secretary General said, May Allah grant him heaven. May his family members and his many well-wishers give strength to bear this grief.

Mentioning that the songs of this artist inspired the liberation war, he said, his songs were the most inspiring for us in the 1971 war of independence. Later he wrote thousands of songs. We know that he is the great artist, the great writer, the songwriter in the BBC record. He wrote most of the songs in Bengali language.

Mirza Fakhrul also said that Begum Khaleda Zia liked Gazi Mazharul Anwar very much. He suffered a lot on her death. Gazi Mazharul Anwar died on the way to the hospital at 7:55 am on Sunday (September 4). BNP General Secretary rushed to United Hospital in Gulshan after getting the news. BNP Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, Jasas General Secretary Zakir Hossain Rokon and BNP media cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan and other leaders were present on the occasion.

Gazi Mazharul Anwar left numerous benefactors including his wife Zohra Gazi, a son and a daughter. Daughter Dithi Rahman lives in the United States. He will return home via Dubai in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council Member Professor Mamun Ahmed said that an application has been made to the Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University for permission from the university authorities to pay their last respects to eminent artist Gazi Mazharul Anwar at the Central Shaheed Minar.
