Private Car Girder: Prime Minister orders blacklisting of contractor companies

News Desk: The construction of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) from the airport to Gazipur is going on to make the road connection between the capital Dhaka and Gazipur modern, fast and comfortable. On Monday (August 15), five members of the same family, including a child, were killed in a private car when they were crushed under the girder of the project titled 'Greater Dhaka Sustainable Urban Transport' on the road in front of Jasimuddin Road in Uttara of the capital. In this incident, the Prime Minister has ordered to conditionally blacklist some companies including the contractors implementing the project.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave this order at the National Economic Council Executive Committee (ECNEC) meeting on Tuesday (August 16). He presided over the meeting through video conference from Ganobhaban and connected with the NEC conference room in Sherbangla Nagar of the capital. At the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister's instructions were presented by Planning Minister MA Mannan and State Minister for Planning.

The state minister said that the Secretary of Roads and Highways Department ABM Amin Ullah Noori presented the initial report on the Uttara accident in the Eknek meeting. The initial report revealed the negligence of the contractor. The Prime Minister listened to the incident very attentively and was overcome with emotion. After that, he gave instructions and said that action should be taken against all those who are involved in this incident and the company involved. Besides, he said to blacklist the companies which show irresponsibility in their work.

The Planning Minister said, "I am shocked and saddened by the Prime Minister's reply." The Prime Minister said - it is not acceptable. It is the responsibility of the Project Manager of the project, the contractor to do such work properly. How can they do such things without security? How did they do this without blocking the road? Prime Minister ordered to look into why this happened. The prime minister asked for a fair investigation and action against the culprits. Whoever he is is not acceptable. Life is precious. Action should be taken against all contractors-PD. The lives of all those who died are precious.
