Tofazzal Hossain Babu, Pabna: Due to the bumper yield of jute this year in Pabna's Chatmohar and the high price in the market, the farmers are smiling, but the jute farmers are in trouble for growing jute due to lack of water. Many farmers in the region are unable to cut raw jute due to the drying up of water in rivers and canals, reservoirs, canals and rivers due to severe drought. Somewhere jute plants are drying up due to lack of water. Jute is being piled up wherever there is water. Ponds, reservoirs, rivers, ponds are rotting and smelling. In addition to soaking jute in little water, the work of washing jute is going on in Pauradam. From morning to afternoon, farmers and agricultural workers, men and women, are busy with jute removal and washing. However, due to water, the color of jute is not good, so the farmers are worried about the price. According to the information of the Upazila Agriculture Office, jute has been cultivated on 8 thousand 890 hectares of land in Chatmohar Upazila this year. Good quality jute is sold in the market. 3 thousand to 32 hundred taka. Farmers think that the price will increase further. Marginal farmers are not able to cut jute due to the drying up of water in small and big canals and canals. Many have started cutting jute with hope due to the heavy rains filling the various ponds and drains, but they are worried about raising jute due to lack of water. Many farmers have cut the jute and left it in the field. Many people are spreading jute in ponds, ponds and reservoirs next to houses and roads. On the one hand jute farmers are in dire straits due to lack of rain, on the other hand farmers are not able to plant saplings and paddy. Immediately after cutting the jute, the farmers cultivate the land and sow seedlings of paddy. Shamser Ali, a jute grower of DBgram in the upazila, said, this year I have cultivated jute on 2 bigha of land. My total cost per bigha of land is about 20 thousand taka. Due to less rain, we had to cut the jute to wake up. Jute had to be raised far away from the land at extra cost. There is also a lack of space to wake up. Jute grower Jahangir Alam of Haripur village of the upazila said that due to lack of rain this year, there is not enough water anywhere to grow jute. Jute had to be piled up in Baral river. The water smelled rotten. Still there is no option but to wake up the jute. In this regard, Upazila Agriculture Officer AA Masumbillah said, due to insufficient rain this year, the cost of farmers is becoming higher than other times. Farmers will not incur losses at current market prices. But if the price falls, the farmers will face problems. The jute growers are in severe water shortage to rot the jute.
