One person sentenced to life imprisonment in Thakurgaon rape case

Abdul Awal, Thakurgaon: A man named Md. Hasmat Ali (36) was sentenced to life with rigorous imprisonment in a rape case in Thakurgaon and ordered to remain in jail for 6 months without paying a fine of Tk 50,000. Thakurgaon Wise Woman and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal judge Md. Golam Farooq gave this order yesterday. According to the source of the case, Hasmat Ali first proposed love to the girl who was a neighbor of Collegepara Mohalla in the city. Later, he took her to his house, raped her and threatened her not to tell anyone about the incident. Later, when the girl became pregnant, the matter came to light. After a few more days of family and local reconciliation, Hasmat Ali refused to marry the girl and did not confess to the rape. On June 20, 2010, the girl's mother went to the Sadar police station to file a complaint. If the case was not registered there due to unknown reasons, he filed the case in Thakurgaon Wise Women and Child Suppression Tribunal. The court re-registered the case and assigned the investigation to Sadar police station. Although there are 3 defendants in this case, the police found the main accused Hasmat Ali guilty and filed a final report stating that the other 2 were not involved in the incident. The counsel for the state in the case was learned special PP Abu Taiyab Md. Nazmul Huda. Hasmat Ali is the son of Haider Ali of Collegepara Mohalla of Paur city.
