Sexual violence during the Birangana conflict in Kurigram; Discussion of Compensation and Remedies

Kurigram Correspondent: Sexual violence during Biranganad conflict; A day-long discussion on compensation and redress was held. On Sunday morning, a discussion meeting was held at Kurigram Sadar Upazila Administration Alorbhuvan conference room. Organized by private NGO Women's Party, Shireen Haque, Executive Member of Women's Party, Hero Freedom Fighter Harun Or Rashid Lal, Upazila Academic Supervisor of Sadar Upazila Education Office Mizanur Rahman, Sadar Upazila Social Service Officer Habibur Rahman, Holokhana UP Chairman Rezaul Islam, Panchgachi UP Chairman Abdul Baten spoke at the discussion meeting. Journalist Humayun Kabir Surya, Area Manager of TIB-Sanak Kurigram Soumen Das, Secretary of Zilla Mahila Parishad Pratima Chowdhury, Program Manager of Kurigram RDRS Office Tapan Kumar Saha, Executive Head of Women's Organization AFAD Saida Yasmin etc. In the event, it was informed that 10 Veeranganas have been given state recognition in Kurigram so far. There are 8 more people in the list. In addition, 63 people have applied to the social service office, said the upazila social service officer. Shirin Haque of the women's side said that all parties should come forward for the state and social rehabilitation of Biranganad. We are providing monthly support to 78 Viranganas as much as we can. In order to socially establish Birangana women freedom fighters of Kurigram, they need to be invited in all events. He also called for plaques to be made in the city in memory of Birangana women freedom fighters. He also said that the women's side is working with the cooperation of all for the state registration and recognition of brave women/women freedom fighters, social rehabilitation and compensation during the conflict.
