News Desk: General Secretary of Awami League and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader has called on the people of the country not to be confused by the purposeful propaganda of those who want to see the country as a damaged country, anti-development and anti-communal forces.

He made this call to the countrymen during a briefing in his office at the Secretariat on Monday (August 1).

Obaidul Quader said that the Bangladesh government has taken various precautionary measures to deal with the negative effects of Russia-Ukraine war, economic blockade, increase in the price of oil, gas and fertilizers in the international market. Many countries around the world are struggling to cope with unsustainable and skyrocketing inflation. A look at inflation rates in the developed world shows the severity of the global economic crisis.

He said that in June, the inflation rate was 9.1 percent in the United States, 9.4 percent in the United Kingdom, 8.9 percent in Germany, 15.9 percent in Russia, 78.6 percent in Turkey, 9.4 percent in the Netherlands, 39.9 percent in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Inflation in Bangladesh was 7.56 percent in June compared to 21.3 percent.

General Secretary of Awami League said that many people in the country are trying to mislead people by talking about price inflation. Due to the precautionary measures taken by the Sheikh Hasina government, the situation in Bangladesh is relatively tolerable.

He said that there is a power and energy crisis in the country and a certain group is purposely spreading misinformation and confusion. In fact, the world's energy supply chain was destabilized due to the Russia-Ukraine war during the recovery of the global economy after the global corona pandemic.

This top leader of Awami League said, as a result of this, there is an abnormal increase in the price of fuel in the international market. More than ninety percent of the world's countries depend on imports for primary energy. As an importing country, this situation has had a negative impact on Bangladesh as well.

The minister said that energy crisis is going on in almost all the countries of the world including western countries at the moment. To cope with the situation, they have drastically reduced the consumption of electricity and fuel. In view of the global energy crisis, power generation has fallen negatively. Electricity generation has also declined in many developed countries. This has an inevitable impact on the economy and the production system.

He said, the UK's Evening Standard newspaper recently headlined, 'London narrowly avoided blackout as electricity prices surged last week' - The UK was forced to pay 5,000% higher than the typical price for electricity to prevent a power blackout. in south-east London. New York City Mayor Eric Adams said, We are in a financial crisis like you can never imagine.... Wall Street is Collapsing; we are in recession.

Obaidul Quader paid humble respect to all the martyrs of August 15 including Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the mournful August. He remembered the memory of all the martyrs with respect.
