In the recent financial year 2021-2022, the import-export trade with India through the country's largest land port, Benapole, has generated a revenue of Tk 4,600 crore. Which is Tk 455 crore more than the previous financial year. In the financial year 2020-21, the revenue from this port was Tk 4 thousand 145 crores. A senior official of the Benapole Customs House said on Thursday that the import volume of goods through the Benapole port has decreased in the recent fiscal year. Compared to the previous financial year, 430 thousand metric tons of goods have been imported less. As a result revenue income could not reach the target. However, compared to the fiscal year 2020-2021, the revenue income increased by about 11 percent last year. He said that transparency and accountability have already been increased in product redemption to increase revenue income. Besides, effective measures have been taken to prevent customs evasion and smuggling. At the time of discussion, the fixed target of revenue was Tk 5 thousand 158 crores. It is to be noted that out of the 24 land ports currently operating in the country, the highest revenue of 12 ports comes from the customs house of Benapole port. Due to the ease of communication system, traders have a lot of interest in this route. Currently, the port has 28 warehouses, 8 open yards, one Indian truck terminal, one export truck terminal and one transshipment yard for commercial operations.
