Abdul Awal, Thakurgaon: Police have arrested a man named Nirmal Karmakar (35) on charges of insulting the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He was arrested from Shibganj Bazar in Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila on Wednesday (July 6) afternoon. According to local and police sources, he made derogatory remarks about the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in a loud voice while talking to his drivers while he was in his own blacksmith shop on Wednesday afternoon. Then he spoke harshly about the character of the Prophet. Later, tensions arose among the local devout Muslims. Later, the police came and took control of the situation and arrested Nirmal Karmakar and took him away. The arrested Nirmal Karmakar is the son of Naresh Karmakar of Shibganj Kamarpara village in Jamalpur Union. Confirming the arrest, Thakurgaon Sadar Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamal Hossain said he had insulted Nabiji at one point while talking to his driver. This created tension among the local Muslims. Later, the police took control of the situation and arrested him. He was given first aid after his arrest. Legal action will be taken later.
