Shikhar Dhawan is the seventh Indian captain in seven months

Sports Desk: The Indian cricket team will travel to the West Indies, a country in the Caribbean, to play a three-match ODI and five-match T20 series later this month. Left-arm top-order batsman Shikhar Dhawan will lead the Indian team in the upcoming ODI series. He became the seventh Indian captain in the last seven months. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday (July 7th) announced a 16-member squad with Dhawan as captain ahead of the tour of the West Indies. All-rounder Rabindra Jadeja will be Dhawan's deputy in the team. Notable cricketers like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jaspreet Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Mohammad Shami and KL Rahul will be absent from the series. That is why the selectors have given this responsibility to Dhawan, who led India to ODIs in Sri Lanka last year. Ruturaj Gaikwad has been included in the squad as Dhawan's partner in the opening match. Shubhaman Gill has also been brought back to the ODIs for the first time since his tour of Australia in 2020. Sanju Samson has been given a chance as the second wicketkeeper in the team. Also included in the ODI pacer Arshdeep Singh has retained his place against England. The ODI series will start on July 22 in Trinidad. The second and third matches will be played at the same venue on July 24 and 26, respectively. The visiting India will next play five Twenty20 matches against the two-time world champions in Trinidad, St. Kitts and Florida in the United States. India's ODI squad: Shikhar Dhawan (captain), Rabindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubhaman Gill, Deepak Huda, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Sharul, wicketkeeper Khan, the famous Krishna, Mohammad Siraj and Arshdeep Singh.
