Freedom of the press requires responsibility

Information and Broadcasting Minister and Joint General Secretary of the Awami League. Hassan Mahmood says that freedom of the press or media is as important as responsibility. The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a function to distribute checks of welfare grant and second phase financial assistance of Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust among journalists at Press Institute Bangladesh auditorium in the capital today. Regarding the responsibility of the media, the Information and Broadcasting Minister said with an example, "A few days ago I saw two columns of big news in a newspaper - expressing the UN's concern about the freedom of the media in Bangladesh. But the truth is, as Irene Khan has expressed concern, there are 60 more UN-affiliated reporters like her. If a first-class newspaper writes about one of those 70 people and expresses the 'concern of the United Nations', is that journalism or non-journalism! ”
