Tofazzal Hossain, Pabna: A man named Sardar Abul Kalam Azad has been accused of occupying a government khas pond in Bhangura and building a market. Azad is the organizing secretary of Bhangura Upazila A. League. The incident took place at Patharghata village in Par-Bhangura union of the upazila on Tuesday (June 26) night. Later, the present occupant of the property, Afsar Ali, informed the police station and the police stopped the work. The next day, on Wednesday, Afsar Ali lodged a written complaint with the police station. According to the written complaint and investigation, 27 percent of the government khas property is in Patharghata village of Par-Bhangura union of the upazila. Recently, Sardar Abul Kalam Azad, the organizing secretary of Upazila A-League, started trying to take possession of 6 khas properties. He and his men have already cut down some of the fruit trees there. The reason is that a market will be built there for the development of the local mosque and Joy Bangla Club. This club, which was established a century and a half ago, has no registration. On June 25, when Afsar Ali was not at home, he cut down all the fruit and forest trees in the area. Then on Tuesday (June 27) late at night he started the initial work of building the market with the people. Seeing the matter, Afsar Ali, the former chairman of the present occupant of the property, informed the police about the matter. Officer-in-charge of Bhangura police station Faisal bin Ahsan then stopped the work. At that time, he said, in order to build the installation on government khas land, the permission of all the departments including the Upazila Parishad is required to collect and build. Then if anyone tries to rebuild, he will be brought under the law. Regarding the allegations, Awami League leader Sardar Abul Kalam Azad told the media that a club had been set up here a long time ago. Now the people of the village and the mosque committee want to market here so the place has been cleared. However, he admitted that no permission was taken to build a market here. However, he claimed that the allegation of misappropriation of land was baseless. Admitting receiving the complaint, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nahid Hasan Khan said that after receiving the complaint, the Union Land Assistant Officer was sent to the spot. Everyone there is forbidden to build any kind of installation. Even then, legal action will be taken against anyone who goes for installation.
