'Government ensures free flow of information'

Dr. Hasan Mahmud said, “Due to the liberal broadcasting policy of the media-friendly government, 47 television, 22 FM radio and 33 community radio channels have been allowed in the private sector at present. 108 online news portals have been given registration certificates. Besides, registration certificates have been issued to 108 online portals of daily newspapers. Work is underway to register 48 more. Besides, the online portals of 14 TV channels have been given registration certificates in response to the application of online portals of 5 TV channels. ” He further said, “From the financial year 2017-18 to the financial year 2020-21, 1,422 journalists and family members of journalists have been given grants of Tk 12.56 crore. Besides, 4 crore 92 lakh 50 thousand taka has been given in favor of 542 journalists and journalist families so far in the financial year 2021-22. ”
