10 injured, 20 houses vandalized and looted in Faridpur

Ehsan Rana, Faridpur: At least 10 shops and houses were vandalized and looted in a series of clashes between two groups of villagers at Salthar Gutti in Faridpur. The clash took place at Gutti village of Mir in Gutti union of the upazila on Friday (June 24). During the clashes, at least 2 shops and 20 houses were attacked and vandalized and looted. Upon receiving the news, the police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The families of the victims said that Matubbar Chan Mia, a supporter of Saltha Upazila Chairman Wadud Matubbar, and Turap Matubbar, along with Abu Matubbar, a supporter of Ibrahim Khan of the same village, had been arguing for a long time. On Thursday (June 23) afternoon, Chan Mia and Turap Matubbar's brother Abu Matubbar went to pick up the house but Turap Matubbar obstructed them. This led to a scuffle between Turap and Abu Matubbar. According to the source, on Friday, Chan Mia and Torap raided the house of Matubbar Ibrahim and his supporters, looted two shops, 20 houses and looted gold and jewelery, two cows and cash kept in the house selling onions. Upon receiving the news, the police of Saltha police station went to the spot and brought the situation under control. At least 10 people from both groups were injured in the clashes between the protesters and the bricks. The injured have been admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and Nagarkanda Upazila Health Center. In this regard, Ibrahim Khan said, Matubbar Chan Mia and Turap Matubbar, supporters of Saltha Upazila Chairman Wadud Matubbar, attacked and looted the houses of me and our family and my supporters. He further said, "I do real Ahliga, why don't I team with Wadud Matubbar, that is my crime." I team up with Khandaker Rezaur Rahman Choyan. Saltha Upazila Chairman Wadud Matubbar said, "I have nothing to do with this clash." Those who caused the clashes are led by their two brothers. Faridpur's Saltha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Sadiq said a police team rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The atmosphere in the area is calm now.
