11-hour train derailment due to derailment of locomotives and bogies at Kaliakair

Kaliakair (Gazipur) Correspondent: Two bogies with engine of Panchagarh Express train derailed at Outer Signal Crossing of Kaliakair Mouchak Railway Station in Gazipur on Friday night. As a result, all trains from Dhaka to North Bengal and South-West are closed for 11 hours. After the rescue train arrived and rescued, the train movement in the north-west with Dhaka became normal at 9.30 am on Saturday. According to the train's passengers, railway police and local sources, the Dhaka-bound intercity Panchagarh Express Up Train No. 693, which left Panchagarh, crossed Line 1 of Mouchak Station shortly before 10 pm on Friday. Shortly afterwards, two bogies, including the train's engine, derailed at the Outer Signal Crossing. The Kurigram-bound 'Kurigram Express' stopped at Joydebpur station and the Dhaka-bound 'Jamalpur Express' stopped at Mirzapur station. As a result of this accident, all Dhaka-Rajshahi and North-West trains were stopped. Hamidur Alam, a passenger of Shovon class train from Dinajpur, said that at the same time, the Dhaka-bound Panchagarh-bound inter-city express train No. 656 crossed Mouchak station along line 2. Due to the crossing of two trains at the same station, the speed of train number one was low. As a result, the train was saved from a terrible accident. But the train passengers spend the night in severe misery. On Saturday morning, many passengers got off the train and left for Dhaka by bus. Imran Hossain, sub-inspector of Joydebpur railway station police outpost, said, "We have taken measures on behalf of the railway police to reduce the suffering of the passengers and also ensure the safety of the passengers." Rezaul Islam, station master of Joydebpur railway junction, said the relief train from Dhaka reached the spot around 2pm and started the rescue operation. The rescue work of the engine was completed at 8 in the morning. Two other bogies were recovered around 8.30 am. Later, the train started running at 9:30 am. Bangladesh Railway Pakshi Divisional Railway Manager. Shahidul Islam said that after receiving the news of derailment of Panchagarh Express, relief train went from Dhaka division and started rescue operation. Train service has started from 9:30 am on Saturday. Besides, a four-member investigation committee has been formed to find out the cause of the accident. However, he could not immediately say who is a member of the committee.
