Bumper yield of mung bean in Galachipa

Patuakhali Correspondent: This year bumper crop of mung bean has been harvested in Galachipa upazila of Patuakhali. Due to favorable weather, adequate fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, availability of agricultural machinery and incentives to the farmers, it has been reported that the farmers are interested in cultivating mung bean. They are now cultivating mung bean along with paddy due to high profit in a short time. According to the Upazila Agriculture Office, Bari-6 mung bean has been cultivated in a total of 10,500 hectares of land in 12 unions and 1 municipality of the upazila this season. Among them Golkhali, Amkhola, Kalagachhia, Gajalia, Chiknikandi, Charkajal, Char Biswas, Galachipa Sadar, Panpatti, Ratnadi Taltoli, Bakul Baria and other favorable weather conditions, adequate fertilizers and modern agricultural inputs are available. Asked about the yield, farmer Amir Hossain of Ratnadi Taltoli area said, "Pulses yield has been much better this year as compared to last year." We hope to get 1200 to 1300 kg pulses per hectare. Sohrab Hossain Hawlader of Char Haridebpur village in Golkhali Union said, “I planted pulses in 20 percent of the land. I got one and a half times more pulses than last year. Upazila Agriculture Officer Arju Akhter said the yield of mung bean in Galachipa has been better this year as compared to other years. I am always inquiring about the overall situation of the farmers. Apart from this, I am keeping in touch with the marginal farmers through field level officials and employees from land preparation to seed sowing, pesticide spraying, crop collection and getting fair price.
