Issuance of objection letter to the students of Bashemurbiprabi demanding amendment of the notification of fee waiver.

Mezba Rahman; Bashemurbiprabi Correspondent: In the context of the students' movement, the administration of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology (Bashemurbiprabi) has issued a notification reducing various fees related to education. The general students handed over the objection letter to the registrar after discussing the objections of the published notification. The open discussion was held in front of the academic building on May 24 (Tuesday) at 1 pm. At that time, they demanded to amend the published notification. They said that student welfare fee has been attached to point 9 of the notification which was earlier waived. Besides, the syllabus at point 19 was made 150 rupees but earlier it was fixed at 50 rupees. The center fee of Rs. 200 has been fixed at point 2 of the examination fee which was earlier canceled. He further said that the waiver of fees from March 2020 to October 2021 was not mentioned in the notification. Two semester fees have to be waived during the coronation period. Incidentally, on 26 October 2021, the students started a movement demanding reduction of various fees related to education. Vice-Chancellor in an open discussion with students on October 29. AQM Mahbub announced a reduction in fees in several sectors in consultation with UGC and rescheduling of other fees as demanded by the students. On 31st October, the notice of waiver of fees announced by the Vice-Chancellor was published. Subsequently, in consultation with UGC, a notification was issued on May 23, 2022, rescheduling the fee.
