Two killed in truck-Mahindra collision in Kushtia

Rabiul Alam, Kushtia: Mahendra passenger Helena Begum (50) and CNG driver Liton (38) were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a truck at Lahini Battala in Kushtia town. The tragic road accident took place on Friday (May 20) at around 7.30 pm. 3 more people were injured in the incident. The injured have been admitted to Kushtia General Hospital with 250 beds. However, the condition of a woman named Rizia who was injured in the incident is critical. The deceased were identified as Helena Begum, wife of Gias Uddin of Meghna village in Pangsha upazila of Rajbari district and Mahendra Chalak Liton of Bagmar area of ​​the same district. According to local eyewitnesses, Helena Begum and her daughter Nahida Parveen were on their way to their sister's house in Kushtia in a Mahendra car left from Rajbari. On the other hand, a 10-wheeled truck helper named Kushtia T-11-28 was heading towards Kumarkhali when it reached Lahini Battala and collided head-on with the truck. Helena Begum, a passenger of Mahendra's car, died on the spot. The driver of the Mahendra car, Liton, died on the way to Kushtia General Hospital with the help of locals. Later, fire service personnel came to the spot, recovered Helana's body and sent it to the morgue of Kushtia General Hospital. However, the driver of the truck fled from the spot. During this time many locals blocked the highway and started protesting. Later the police came and brought the situation under control. Kushtia Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Idris Ali confirmed the matter and said a road accident had taken place at Lahini Battala in the city. A woman died on the spot. The injured were rushed to Kushtia General Hospital for treatment and another died while undergoing treatment. Both CNG and trucks are in our custody. However, the truck driver quickly fled. Attempts are being made to arrest him.
