Bogra transformer explodes, killing Nesco worker

Bogra Correspondent: An employee named Rabiul Islam Shahin was killed when a Nesco power transformer exploded in Bogra. He died at the Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in the capital around 9am on Friday. Earlier on Thursday night, the incident took place at the office of Nesco Distribution Division-3 in the old Bogra area of ​​the city. Rabiul Islam Shahin, 50, was a switch board attendant (SBA) in the power department. He worked in the power department for about 26 years. His home is in Gabtali upazila. The death has been confirmed by Zulfiqar Ali, Assistant Engineer, Nesco Distribution Division-3. He said that it is the responsibility of Rabiul Islam to record (read) various data of electricity every hour. The power transformer equipment (City Equipment) behind Rabiul exploded while taking meter readings around one o'clock on Thursday night. Hearing the sound of explosion, other people in the office rescued him and took him to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. Sheikh Hasina was referred to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka with first aid from the hospital. Later at half past two in the night Rabiul was taken to Dhaka. He died at around 9 am after being admitted there. Zulfiqar Ali said Rabiul Islam's body was still in the morgue of Burn Hospital in Dhaka. There is an official of Nesco to look into the overall issue. The body will be brought to Bogra after the completion of the formal arrangements there.
