News Desk: International Museum Day today (Wednesday). Every year a slogan is put forward to highlight the significance of this day - to create research opportunities for students and teachers. Citizens of the world learn to think about the museum and its own heritage.

This year the theme of the day is 'Power of Museum'. The day has been observed worldwide since 197 at the call of the International Council of Museums. ICOM was established in 1948. It currently has 26,000 museums in 108 countries as members.

The Bangladesh National Museum organizes colorful rallies, thematic seminars and special exhibitions on the day every year. This year also there is a detailed program on the occasion of the day.

The program includes rallies and cultural events. State Minister for Culture KM Khalid will be present as the chief guest at the inaugural function at the premises of Bangladesh National Museum at Shahbag today at 7.30 am.

A museum is an institution that preserves a collection of archeological artifacts. The museum collects and preserves objects of scientific, artistic and historical importance and exhibits them to the public.

The members of the Indian Asiatic Society collected ethnographic, archeological, geological and zoological specimens of the region and undertook to preserve and display them properly. It was completed in 1913. There are hundreds of museums in Bangladesh. However, the National Museum of Bangladesh is considered as the main museum of the country.
