News Desk: Today is the 41st historic homecoming day of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. After the assassination of Bangabandhu, he returned to Bengal on 16 May 1971 after a long exile. He arrived at the then Dhaka Kurmitola Airport via Kolkata from the Indian capital Delhi on a Boeing flight of Indian Airlines at 4.30 pm that day.

On the occasion of Homecoming Day, various socio-cultural organizations including Awami League have taken various programs across the country.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was brutally killed along with his family on 15 August 1975. At that time his two daughters Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana were released from the hands of the killers as they were in exile. Later, in the absence of Sheikh Hasina, he was elected party president at the Awami League National Council session held in Dhaka on 14, 15 and 16 February 1981. He then returned to the country on 16 May.

In response to the heartfelt love of about 1.5 million people present at the airport to welcome Sheikh Hasina, he said, "I have come to the country to take part in the liberation struggle from the side of the people of Bengal." I did not come to be the leader of Awami League. As your sister, as a daughter, as an Awami League worker who believes in Bangabandhu's ideology, I want to be by your side. '

In a tearful voice, he said, "I see millions of acquaintances in today's public meeting. Not only my dear father Bangabandhu, mother and brothers and many more dear ones. Sheikh Hasina said, "Brother Russell will never come back, he will not call me Apa." After losing everything, today you are my relatives. '

The day after Sheikh Hasina's return home (May 16, 1981), the daily Sangbad under the headline 'Millions of people welcomed their leader with a warm welcome', the capital Dhaka turned into a procession city yesterday (May 16). Heavy rains could not stop the procession. The slogan did not ebb. Slogans of millions of voices have shaken the city.

According to the report, when the plane carrying Sheikh Hasina was seen in the sky at 4.30 pm, thousands of people entered the airport ignoring all controls and requests. The plane landed at great risk. The crowd went straight to the plane. After many attempts, the truck was taken to the front of the cockpit door, removing the current of the crowd. At this time Sheikh Hasina waved to the crowd from inside.

At 4:32 pm, Sheikh Hasina got down the stairs and got into the truck. At this time, the slogan of Gagan Bidari was in the voices of millions of people, ‘Hasina, I promised you, I will avenge the murder of Mujib.’ There were tears in the eyes of many at that time. When she was given the garland, Sheikh Hasina was also weeping uncontrollably. At that time Sheikh Hasina was wearing a thick sari of black striped loom on white color and a veil on her head.

It takes three hours to reach Sheikh Hasina's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar from Kurmitola. At this time the city life is almost endangered due to storms and rains. Hundreds of thousands of people are waiting here when the roads disrupt normal life. He appeared at the mass reception at 7.30 pm.
