Sheikh Hasina is highly praised by the President of Equatorial Guinea

Kabir Al Mahmoud, Spain: Equatorial Guinea's President Theodore Abiang Nguemaba Mbesisogo has praised Bangladesh's ongoing economic progress under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. On Thursday (April 6) at 1 pm local time, the newly appointed Ambassador of Bangladesh in the capital Malabo Mohammad Sarwar presented his identity card to the President's Office from the hotel in a motorcade.

After handing over the credentials, Ambassador Mohammad Sarwar Mahmud on behalf of the President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh greeted the President of Equatorial Guinea and the President of Equatorial Guinea also greeted the President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh on his behalf. During the meeting, Ambassador Mohammad Sarwar Mahmud mentioned that Bangladesh has achieved the status of a developing country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and is making significant contribution in realizing the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Praising President Theodore Abiang, the ambassador added that Equatorial Guinea has made tremendous progress in the socio-economic field over the past two decades and is emerging as one of the leading economic powers on the African continent. Bangladesh can be an important partner for skilled and hardworking manpower in various fields of emerging economy in this country. In recent times, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has been rapidly advancing in socio-economic development, attaining the status of a developing country and making a significant contribution to the realization of Sonar Bangla, the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador noted the excellent bilateral relations that exist in Equatorial Guinea, where about 200 Bangladeshis are working in various companies, including finance managers, IT experts, shipping agents and other professions with a very good reputation. Proposed the signing of a memorandum of understanding. The Ambassador pledged to further expand the relations between the two countries by identifying new areas of potential.

He called for the import of quality medicines, leather and leather products, frozen fish and household utensils from Bangladesh. They both expressed strong commitment to bilateral cooperation in the areas of textile, trade, tourism and communication between the citizens of the two countries. The Ambassador sought the assistance of Equatorial Guinea for the safe and sustainable repatriation of 1.1 lakh Rohingyas who have been forcibly displaced in Bangladesh. President Theodore Abiang deeply appreciated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's humanitarian response to the Rohingya people and assured her full support for speedy repatriation. President Abiang listened attentively to the issues raised by the Ambassador and assured overall cooperation. He also expressed interest in harnessing Bangladesh's commitment to the development of small and medium enterprises in Equatorial Guinea. Ambassador Sarwar Mahmud spontaneously responded by saying that Bangladesh is ready to be one of the partners in the development of Equatorial Guinea.

President Theodore Abiang wished good luck to Ambassador Sarwar Mahmoud and expressed hope that bilateral relations would be further strengthened during his tenure. Meanwhile, on April 8 (Wednesday), Ambassador Mohammed Sarwar Mahmoud paid a courtesy call on Equatorial Guinea's Foreign Minister Chimeon Ono Esono in his office. Mohammad Sarwar Mahmud is currently serving as Bangladesh's ambassador to Spain, Andorra and Equatorial Guinea.
