He was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Miami, USA on Wednesday (April 7) evening.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, the greetings sent by the US President Joe Biden to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were read out. Congratulating the Bangladeshis living in Florida on the occasion of the inauguration of the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Miami, the Foreign Minister said, "The Prime Minister has given permission for the establishment of this Consulate General of Bangladesh in Miami to provide necessary services to Bangladeshis living in Florida at their request." The national anthems of Bangladesh and the United States were played at the beginning of the program.

The Foreign Minister then paid homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu at the Bangabandhu Corner at the Consulate. Later, the Foreign Minister cut the ribbon and inaugurated the Consulate General. Ambassador of Bangladesh to Washington Shahidul Islam was the special guest on the occasion. Consul General of Bangladesh in Miami Iqbal Ahmed conducted the program and delivered the welcome speech.
