Abrar murder case: Court security tightened

News Desk: The verdict in the murder case of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad will be announced today. Judge Abu Jafar Mohammad of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal 1 on Sunday at 12 noon. Kamruzzaman will announce the verdict.

Meanwhile, 22 accused in the Abrar murder case have been brought to court. Family members of the slain Abrar are also present in the court.

Meanwhile, members of the law enforcement forces have set up a strict security cordon around the court premises in and around Old Dhaka. Security has been beefed up in the area since Sunday morning.

Additional two platoon police have been deployed in the area adjacent to the court. Besides, the traffic on the road is also being controlled. Hajat Khana OC Nripen told the media that security has been beefed up to avoid any untoward situation following the verdict on Abrar's murder.

Last November 14 Dhaka speedy trial tribunal-1 judge Abu Zafar. Kamruzzaman's court set November 28 for the verdict in the case after hearing both sides. A total of 48 witnesses have testified in the case.

Abu Abdullah Bhuiyan, one of the state's public prosecutors (PPs) in the Abrar murder case, told the media that they had appealed to the court seeking maximum punishment for the 25 accused in the case.

The court framed charges against the accused on September 15, 2020. On November 13, 2019, Wahiduzzaman, an inspector of the Detective Branch (DB) and investigating officer of the case, filed a chargesheet against 25 people in the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court.

According to the indictment, preliminary evidence was found that 19 of the 25 accused were involved and six more were involved on the basis of evidence. A total of 22 accused, including 16 out of 19 accused and five out of six out of the accused, have been arrested. There are three fugitives. 70 people have been called as witnesses in the charge sheet. 21 signs and eight seizure lists have been submitted to the court.

The accused in the case are Mehedi Hasan Russell, Anik Sarkar, Ifti Mosharraf Sakal, Mehedi Hasan Robin, Meftahul Islam Zion, Muntasir Alam Jemi, Khandaker Tabakhkharul Islam Tanvir, Mujahidur Rahman, Muhtasim Fouad, Moniruzzaman Monir. Islam, Shamim Billah, Moaz Abu Hurairah, ASM Nazmus Sadat, Morsheduzzaman Jisan and Ehteshamul Rabbi Tanim.
