News Desk: A strong earthquake was felt in different parts of the country including the capital Dhaka and Chittagong. The quake was felt at 5:45 am on Friday (November 26). However, no damage was reported anywhere in the country.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the quake was felt at 5:45:41 am. Its level was 5.6. The epicenter was reported 347 kilometers east and south-east of the Agargaon Earthquake Measurement Center on the Indo-Myanmar border. The epicenter was reported at 5:45:41 a.m. Bangladesh time, according to the USGS website. Its magnitude was 8.1 in Myanmar. The epicenter was reported 20 km northwest of Hakha in Myanmar and 63 km south-east of Thanjal in Mizoram, India. The quake struck at a depth of 42 km below the surface.
The distance from Chittagong to the source is 164 kilometers. The quake also shook places like Cox's Bazar, Sylhet and Kurigram. A Chittagong resident told Reuters he felt a strong tremor. Meanwhile, India's Anandabazar newspaper reported that the quake was also felt in Assam, Tripura and West Bengal.
