News Desk: The UN General Assembly has adopted the recommendation of Bangladesh's transition from a least developed country. As the only country, Bangladesh has met all the three criteria for transition from a least developed country.

Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the United Nations Rabab Fatima confirmed the matter in a tweet on Wednesday night (November 24).

By adopting the resolution, Bangladesh completed all the steps for the next step from the LDC category.

This is a landmark achievement in the development of Bangladesh at a time when Bangladesh is celebrating the golden jubilee of great independence and the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

In a tweet, Rabab Fatima wrote, "The UN General Assembly has adopted a historic recommendation to move Bangladesh from a least developed country. What could be a better occasion to celebrate the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence (50 years) and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu! The nation's long-held hopes and aspirations and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's vision-2021 have finally come true. Joy Bangla. '

Earlier this year, at a meeting of the United Nations Committee for Development Policy (CDP) in New York on February 22-26, a final recommendation was made to move Bangladesh from a least developed country to a developing country. Nine months later, it was adopted by the United Nations. If all goes well, Bangladesh will no longer be on the list of least developed countries in 2026. Developing countries will be listed.

Although it was supposed to gain in 2024. But it took Bangladesh more than two years to cope with the effects of the pandemic coronavirus.

Bangladesh is the only country that has met the three criteria for transition from a least developed country: per capita income, human resources and economic and environmental fragility. It is on the basis of these three indicators that the UN reviews the issue of transition from LDCs.

According to a UN review, the per capita income for 2019 was set at ২ 1,222. But at that time the per capita income of Bangladesh was 1 thousand 726 dollars. And now (November-2021) it is 2 thousand 554 dollars.

The minimum standard set by the United Nations in the human resource index was 8. And then Bangladesh was 85.4.

The criteria for the economic and environmental fragility index were set at 32 or less. At that time Bangladesh's position was 26A.

It is to be noted that Bangladesh, which has been in the least developed country Qatar since 1975, fulfilled all the conditions of the United Nations Committee for Development Policy (CDP) in 2016 to become a developing country.
