An active member of Ansar al-Islam was arrested by the ATU

News Desk: A smart team of Anti Terrorism Unit (ATU) conducted an operation based on the information received and arrested an active member of the banned militant organization "Ansar Al Islam" from the Setabganj crossroads under Bochaganj police station in Dinajpur district on Tuesday 23 November (Tuesday).

Name of the arrested member - Md. Ashiq Islam (19), father: Md. Babul Haque.

During the arrest, 01 Android mobile set and two SIMs were seized from him. The Facebook ID used in the extremist activities was found logged in on his Android mobile phone during the arrest. He is a first year student of a local college degree.

The arrested Md. Ashiq Islam is a follower of Mufti Jasim Uddin Rahmani. He used to spread the doctrine of establishing so-called Islamic caliphate by liking, commenting and sharing on various extremist Facebook pages and posts of extremist ideologues. Defendant and his accomplices maintained communication through various encrypted apps while maintaining confidentiality.

The arrested accused and his accomplices have been conducting various activities for a long time, including online extremist propaganda aimed at establishing a caliphate against the prevailing democratic system. The accused and his accomplices spread religious extremist ideology among the general public, creating panic in the minds of the people, creating instability in the country, deteriorating law and order situation by endangering public safety and planning, training and preparing for sabotage on online platforms. The campaign was going on.

A case has been filed against the arrested Md Ashiq Islam (19) at Bochaganj police station of Dinajpur district under anti-terrorism law. Further legal action is being taken against him.
