News Desk: Although the subsidy for fertilizer has increased several times, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has promised not to increase the price of fertilizer, said the Minister of Agriculture. Md. Abdur Razzak.

The Agriculture Minister was responding to a question from reporters at a press conference after his visit to the Netherlands and the United Kingdom at the Secretariat on Wednesday (November 24).

Asked whether the increase in diesel prices would have an impact on agriculture and how the government would help farmers in this regard, the Agriculture Minister said, "There will be an impact, there is no way to deny it." Thus our farmers are plagued with various problems. They do not get the price of the crop during the peak season. That is why we are talking about the processing of agricultural products, commercialization or export abroad ... to take the initiative so that they can get good prices in the market. '

He said, "The Prime Minister is giving utmost importance to this issue. However, we want to confirm one thing - the price of fertilizer which was আ 250/230/280, is now / 800/900. Quadrupled. We give 900 crore rupees in Surrey subsidy. This time I think we have to pay 20 thousand crore rupees. However, the Prime Minister has so far told us that he will not increase the price of fertilizer.

The Agriculture Minister said, "40 per cent of the irrigation machines run on electricity, they will not have much difficulty. But there will be problems in the case of diesel. Let's see, the price trend is down, if the government will reduce the price of diesel.

"It cannot be controlled," he said, referring to the problem of subsidizing diesel. Will sell it. Speaking of irrigation equipment, diesel will be used for other purposes. It will be difficult to subsidize diesel.

Asked about the government's plan to stop tobacco cultivation, the agriculture minister said, "We do not encourage tobacco cultivation from the agriculture ministry at all. Our policy decision is to discourage it. Even then, some people still smoke. '

Dr. Abdur Razzak added, "One thing has started lately. A country like Japan who has a lot of work to do on humanitarian issues and is very steadfast in policy. They have come to this country and are investing in tobacco, for export. In which a good income is coming from tobacco. The government is in a dilemma. But at the policy level, our policy decision is that we will gradually get out of tobacco. Tobacco will not be a crop in this country. '
