One and a half thousand more Rohingyas are going to Bhasanchar in the seventh phase

News Desk: In the seventh phase, another one and a half thousand Rohingyas are voluntarily going from Cox's Bazar to the permanent shelter camp at Bhasanchar in Noakhali. At around 11am on Wednesday, six buses carrying 256 Rohingyas left Ukhia Degree College ground for Bhasanchar.

In the seventh phase, one and a half thousand to two thousand Rohingyas have been kept ready to be taken to Bhasanchar.

Sources close to the Rohingya law enforcement and the Office of the Commissioner for Refugees, Relief and Repatriation (RRC) said.

Rohingyas have been gathering at the temporary repatriation center at Ukhia Degree College ground since Tuesday (November 23) afternoon. This is the first phase of the relocation of Rohingyas to Bhasanchar after the United Nations joined. Various UN agencies and NGOs, including the Office of the Commissioner for Refugees, Relief and Repatriation (RRRC), are conducting the relocation.

Superintendent of Police Naimul Haque of the 14th Armed Police Battalion (Exhibition) in charge of the temporary repatriation center at Ukhia Degree College ground said the situation in the camp was also normal. Rohingyas have voluntarily gathered at the temporary repatriation center to go to Bhasanchar.

Earlier, on April 1 and 2, in the sixth phase (in two parts), 4,382 Rohingyas went to Bhasanchar. A total of 16,500 Rohingyas have been relocated to Bhasanchar Shelter from different camps in Cox's Bazar in six phases.

One thousand 742 people in the first phase on December 4, 2020, one thousand 604 people in the second phase on December 29, three thousand 242 people in the third phase on January 29 and 30 this year, three thousand 16 people in the fourth phase on February 14 and 15 and three and four people in the fifth phase on March 3 and 4. Four thousand 21 Rohingyas, in the sixth phase on April 1 and 2 four thousand 362 Rohingyas have been transferred to Bhasanchar.

Earlier, in May last year, 306 Rohingyas were rescued and detained while trying to enter Malaysia illegally by sea.

The government has plans to evacuate one lakh Rohingyas from the Bhasanchar shelter. The Bangladesh Navy has implemented a shelter project for one lakh Rohingyas at Noakhali's Hatiyar Bhasanchar at a cost of Tk 3,095 crore from the government's own funds. The infrastructure of 120 cluster villages suitable for 1 lakh Rohingyas has been built on this 13 thousand acre area.

Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya fled the country to Bangladesh in August 2016 in the face of genocide and oppression by the Myanmar army. About 11 lakh Rohingyas are living in Cox's Bazar before and after.

In November of that year, the government undertook a project to relocate one lakh Rohingyas from Cox's Bazar to Bhasanchar. The Bangladesh Navy was given the responsibility to implement the project named Asrayan-3.
