CNI Desk: The Maldives has expressed its keen interest to recruit skilled professionals and doctors from Bangladesh.

Maldives Vice President Faisal Naseem showed the interest during a meeting with Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen at a city hotel on Monday evening.

Both the countries also agreed to work for establishing a direct shipping line between Chattogram and Male to enhance the bilateral trade.

At the meeting, both sides reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral relations, discussed ways and means to further strengthen cooperation and exchanged views on regional and international issues.

Foreign Minister Momen stated that Bangladesh attaches high importance to the relations with the Maldives which are rooted in shared religion, culture and values.

He recalled that the state visit of President of the Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on March 17-19 on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence had contributed to advancing the Bangladesh-Maldives bilateral relations to a great extent.

Momen thanked the Maldives government through the vice president for giving 2 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine for the people of Bangladesh as a gift.

He assured the Maldives vice president, who arrived in Dhaka on Monday on a three-day official visit, of extending necessary assistance in providing medical education and training in skills development in various areas in the Maldives.

The foreign minister said Bangladeshi expatriate workers in the Maldives are contributing to the host economy.

The Maldives vice president was accompanied by, among others, two ministers and the foreign secretary of the Maldives while the foreign minister was accompanied by Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen and other senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Earlier in the day, Faisal paid tribute to Bangabandhu by placing a wreath at his portrait at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the capital
