A smile on the farmer's face at the bumper crop of beans at Chatmohar

Chatmohar (Pabna) Correspondent: Seasonal curry beans have started appearing in various hat-bazaars in Chatmohar of Pabna. Beans have yielded good yields in the upazila again. Cultivation has increased compared to last time. Farmers are also happy to sell beans at good prices from the beginning of the season.

It has been seen that beans are hanging in bunches in trees in Haripur, Bamangram, Katakhali, Atalanka, Bilchalan and some other fields of the upazila. Somewhere, the bean sprouts are full of flowers. Farmers and workers are tending the bean fields. Will sell at a higher price, so farmers are picking beans from the field earlier.

It is learned that farmers are happy to sell beans in advance at a good profit. Beans are being sold at a wholesale price of Rs 100 to Rs 120 per kg this year. Hazrat Ali, a bean farmer from Gopalpur village in Haripur union of the upazila, said, “I have cultivated bean in 1 bigha of land this year, the yield has been very good and I am very happy with the price.

According to the Upazila Agriculture Extension Sources, bean has been cultivated in more than 200 hectares of land in the upazila this year, which was about 150 hectares at this time last year.

Abdul Malek (Mithu), a bean farmer from Kumargara village of the upazila, said, “Knowing the many benefits of bean cultivation, I have cultivated bean on 1 bigha of land for the first time. Due to lack of land management, the expected yield has not been achieved so far. But hopefully, in the rest of the days, there will be some profit besides expenses. Usually 8 to 10 metric tons of beans are produced per hectare. Farmers are expecting higher yields this year as compared to last year.
