EC letter to former state minister for home to leave Tukur area

Pabna Correspondent: The Election Commission has sent a letter to former State Minister for Home Affairs and Member of Parliament for Pabna-1 (Bera-Santhia) constituency Shamsul Haque Tuku requesting him to leave the area following the code of conduct. Mahbubur Rahman, Returning Officer of Bera Municipality, handed over the letter on Monday (November 15) regarding the Bera Municipality election in Pabna.

 
It is learned that Asif Shams Ranjan, son of Shamsul Haque Tuku is contesting for the post of mayor in Bera municipality. Besides, Tuku's brother Abdul Baten and elder brother's daughter Sadia Alam and two other members of the family are contesting in the elections.
Several independent candidates contesting the election have lodged written complaints against the lawmaker for violating the code of conduct to win his son, trying to influence the administration by abusing power, and intimidating foreign and local terrorists. Meanwhile, Tuku's younger brother Abdul Baten, the incumbent mayor and independent candidate, has appealed to the Home Minister, Inspector General of Police and Superintendent of Police for safety of life.

 
District Senior Election Officer and Returning Officer of Bera Municipality Election Mahbubur Rahman said that according to the code of conduct, a very important person at the level of Member of Parliament cannot be present in the constituency and take part in its activities. A letter has been sent to MP Shamsul Haque Tuku requesting him to abide by the provision.

 
Confirming the receipt of the letter, Shamsul Haque Tuku said, "Although I know about the election provisions, I would like to thank the Election Commission for giving me the letter." I myself want the election to be fair and beautiful. I did not violate the code of conduct, nor did I want to.
Locals and Awami League supporters are divided over the three candidates of Shamsul Haque Tuku's family. Hot exchanges are going on by attacking each other. Meetings, rallies, debates are also going on on social media. There were also incidents of assault. The general public is terrified of the possibility of clashes between the mayoral candidates.
In addition to the three members of Tuku's family, there are two other independent candidates for the post of mayor in this municipal election. Voting will take place on November 28.
