News Desk: Planning Minister MA Mannan has commented that the assassination of Bangabandhu was carried out under the patronage of the state. He said that Ziaur Rahman had created a culture of impunity through indemnity. There is no precedent for such an incident anywhere in the world. He made the remarks at a discussion organized by the Progressive Journalists Forum at the Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of the National Press Club at 11am on Friday (November 12).

Speaking as the chief guest, the planning minister said, "I am uncomfortable with the issue of impunity." I don't know if there has been any acquittal through indemnity. State-sponsored, telephonic inquiries were made. Such incidents have not been seen anywhere else in the world. The minister said that the spirit of liberation war was destroyed in this country through assassination of Bangabandhu and then military rule.

Bangabandhu is carrying forward the spirit of liberation war by judging the killers of his daughter. He has tried by law, not by an executive order. He said mines were planted targeting the Prime Minister. He defends himself and occasionally compromises, keeping the spirit of the liberation war high. Calling on all not to support injustice and crime, MA Mannan said, "As a nation, the ideal is that we are non-communal." Those who believe in Bengali nationalism should not support any injustice or crime.

Farida Yasmin, President of National Press Club presided over the discussion. Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka and Professor Dr. was present at the meeting. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, former president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and others.
