News Desk: Hilsa production has increased in Bangladesh under the excellent management of the government, which is now a wonder of the world, said Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sham Rezaul Karim. "One of our dream places is hilsa," he said. For this, Hilsa resource development and management project has been taken at the initiative of the government.

We want to convey the taste and aroma of Hilsa to everyone. The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a district-level seminar on Hilsa Resource Development and Management Project of the Fisheries Department at Pirojpur Circuit House on Friday (November 5) morning. Pirojpur District Fisheries Office and Hilsa Resource Development and Management Project jointly organized the seminar. At the seminar, the Livestock Minister said that at one time it was so rare that children had to show pictures of a fish called hilsa. That means hilsa was getting lost. The present government has taken a strong stand through the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock to increase the production of Hilsa. "We have taken a tough stance while the extraction of mother hilsa and jatka has stopped," he said. I have taken initiative to protect hilsa by monitoring it by air. Laboratory has been set up for Hilsa. The sanctuary has been. Legal action is being taken against those who are trying to destroy the hilsa resources. In the fiscal year 2020-21, 5 lakh 50 thousand metric tons of hilsa has been produced in the country. Rezaul Karim said that due to climate change, river water pollution, uncontrolled dredging, the reproduction and movement of hilsa is being disrupted in various ways. For this reason, sometimes hilsa changes its place and goes elsewhere. We are actively considering the matter. He said that hilsa is getting bigger this year than at any time in the past. On the one hand the amount of hilsa is increasing, on the other hand the size of hilsa is increasing. The smell is coming back too. Some of this has been possible due to the good management of the government. The credit for this goes to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. About 80 percent of the country's animal meat comes from fish. In the last three decades, fish production in the country has increased 6 times. Due to the increase in fish production, a large supply of food is being created.

The demand for animal meat is being met. Unemployment is disappearing. The national economy is prospering as foreign exchange is earned through fish exports, the minister added. The Minister called upon all to play a joint role in the development of Hilsa resources and fisheries development of the country. He also emphasized on the production of various products from fish. The minister also assured that the government is trying to bring the price of fish meal to a tolerable level. He also said that tax concessions have been taken for setting up industries related to the fisheries sector. Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner Abu Ali presided over the seminar. Sajjad Hossain.

Special guests were Anisur Rahman Talukder, Deputy Director, Barisal Divisional Fisheries Department, Mollah Azad Hossain, Additional Superintendent of Police, Pirojpur, MA Hakim Hawlader, General Secretary, Pirojpur District Awami League and Zia Haider Chowdhury, Director, Hilsa Resource Development and Management Project.
