News Desk: Owners and workers of the sector have said that public transport will be closed indefinitely from 8 am on Friday (November 5) in protest of the hike in fuel prices. However, the organizations concerned have not made any official announcement.

The concerned people said that they have decided to stop public transport indefinitely from tomorrow even though it has not been officially announced. The information came after four leaders of the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association, the largest bus owners' organization, spoke on Thursday (November 4th) afternoon about the closure or strike. The government has increased the price of diesel by Tk 15 per liter from midnight on Wednesday (November 3). Leaders of various organizations in the transport sector have met among themselves today. From these meetings it was decided to stop the transport till the announcement of not increasing the fare.

A leader of the Transport Owners Association, who did not want to be named, said leaders of most transport organizations were involved in pro-government politics. So they do not want to officially declare a strike. However, the movement of commercial vehicles including buses will be stopped unofficially. When asked, Khandaker Enayet Ullah, secretary general of the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners' Association, said the owners had decided not to drive because of rising oil prices. However, no official strike was declared.

The organization has written to the BRTA demanding an increase in rent. Earlier, a nationwide truck-covered van strike was called from 8am on Friday (November 5) to protest the hike in diesel prices by Tk 15 per liter. The strike will continue till the price of fuel oil is reduced, said the transport officials. Tajul Islam, president of the Bangladesh Inter-District Truck Drivers' Union, confirmed the information to Jago News at noon on Thursday (November 4).
