The Payra Bridge is being opened

News Desk: The Pigeon Bridge constructed on Patuakhali-Barisal Highway is being opened for public crossing. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will officially inaugurate the virtual on Sunday (October 24) at 10 am.

Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner. Kamal Hossain has confirmed the matter. He said the Prime Minister would virtually inaugurate the bridge today. We have made all kinds of preparations for this.

Engineer Abdul Halim, project director of the Lebukhali-Pigeon Bridge, said construction of the bridge over the Pigeon River on the Barisal-Patuakhali Highway began in 2016. In the meantime, 100% work of the main bridge has been completed. Besides, the work of river bank protection project is also in the final stage. Several safety measures have been taken at the bridge. Security pillars are being installed to protect the main pillars. Arrangements have been made to monitor whether there was any damage to the bridge due to natural calamities like lightning and earthquake.

He added that the Chinese contractor has completed the construction of Longjian Road and Bridge Construction. The bridge, which is 1,480 meters long and 19.6 meters wide, has been connected on both sides by cables.

Abdul Halim said the second bridge in the country is modeled on the Karnafuli Bridge in Chittagong, which is built on an extra dose cable system. The bridge was built with the joint investment of Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, OPEC Fund for International Development and the Government of Bangladesh. The construction cost has been estimated at Tk 500 crore.
