College student killed by classmate in Sylhet, closed teaching

News Desk: A student named Ariful Islam Rahat (18) was stabbed to death by a classmate at Sylhet's South Surma Government College. Police sent his body to the morgue of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy on Thursday (October 22nd) evening. Rahat is the son of Surman Ali of Old Tetli area of ​​Dakshin Surma Upazila and a class XII science student of Dakshin Surma College.

In this incident, the name of a BCL activist named Samsuddoha Saadi (20) has come up. He is said to be a student of the same college and an activist of the Kashmir group of the local Chhatra League. According to police and eyewitness sources, Rahat left home on a motorcycle around 12 noon on Thursday to go to private school. His cousin Rafi was with him at the time. On the way, Rahat left his cousin at the college gate and went to the college campus to meet a friend. On their way out of college, Saadi and Tanvir came on a motorcycle and stabbed Rahat in the thigh of Rahat's right leg from behind. After rescuing Rahat, he was taken to the hospital where the doctor declared him dead. After this incident, the authorities have announced to stop teaching in the college for three days. However, the test will continue. Confirming the matter, the principal of the college Mohammad Shamsul Islam said a three-member investigation committee has been formed to investigate the incident. The committee will report within the next three working days.

I am also demanding the arrest of the killer. Meanwhile, agitated locals and ordinary students of the college blocked the Sylhet-Dhaka highway for half an hour over Rahat's murder. They blocked the road around 4 pm on Thursday. At that time, Rahat demanded the arrest of the killer. Later, on the assurance of Officer-in-Charge (OC) of South Surma Police Station Kamrul Hasan Talukder, the protesters lifted the blockade at 4.30 pm after half an hour.

South Surma Police Station OC Kamrul Hasan Talukder said the cause of the incident was not yet known. However, several teams of police are working in the field to arrest the accused Saadi and Tanvir.
