International Desk: A man named Suraj Kumar killed his wife with a cobra and Russell Viper in the southern Indian state of Kerala. A court in the country has sentenced the man to life imprisonment after such allegations were proved. Prosecutors have called such a verdict rare. Qatar-based Al-Jazeera reported on Thursday (October 14th).

According to state prosecutors, husband Suraj Kumar, 28, tried twice to kill his wife Uthra with a snake. The first time he released a venomous snake Russell Viper on his wife. Uthra survived the treatment at the hospital for about two months at that time. Then in the second phase, Suraj Kumar bought a cobra from a snake and left it on his sleeping wife. Uthrar, 25, died after being bitten by a snake. The woman was killed in May 2020. Uthra's parents suspected Suraj Kumar of the incident and alleged that their daughter was tortured to demand dowry. Police then arrested Suraj Kumar last year. A court in Kerala's Kollam district on Monday convicted husband Suraj Kumar of killing his wife with a snake.

According to local media reports, Judge M Manoj on Wednesday (October 13th) sentenced the man to double life imprisonment. The court did not give the maximum death sentence considering the age of the accused. Suraj Kumar will have to enjoy the whole decoration. That is, once the life sentence is over, the second sentence will start. That means he may have to spend the rest of his life in prison.
