News Desk: Former state minister for home Lutfuzzaman Babar has been sentenced to eight years in prison by a court in a case of illegal acquisition of assets. Dhaka Special Judge's Court 6 on Tuesday. Shahidul Islam announced the verdict.
After presenting the arguments of the state (ACC) and the accused on October 4, the court fixed the date for announcing the verdict. Accused Lutfuzzaman Babar was sentenced to death in the August 21 grenade attack case.
The ACC filed the case against him on January 13, 2008 on charges of illegal acquisition of assets and concealment of information. On July 18 of that year, ACC Deputy Assistant Director Rupak Kumar Saha filed a chargesheet in the court.
In the chargesheet, charges were brought against Babar for acquiring illegal assets worth Tk 6 crore 5 lakh 91 thousand 696. On August 12 of the same year, the court framed charges against the accused and ordered the trial to begin.
