There is no opportunity to play with elections: Obaidul Quader

News Desk: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has commented that there is no opportunity to play with the election. He made the remarks while inspecting the construction work of the eight-lane second Aminbazar Bridge and the second four-lane Salehpur Bridge on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway at Aminbazar, Salehpur and Nayarhat on Tuesday (October 5).

The bridge minister said the elections will be held in Bangladesh in the same way as in other democracies of the world as per the prevailing rules of the country. Towards the end of the term of the Election Commission. The Prime Minister said yesterday that the Election Commission would be formed by forming a search committee after discussions with the concerned stakeholders.

He added that there was no reason to doubt the Election Commission. The BNP is also represented here. Now that there is an election commission, they also have a party commissioner. Who often speaks and disagrees with the decision of the Election Commission. The representative of the Election Commission also spoke in the same tone as the BNP.

The minister said the Election Commission does not need to play sports here. Elections will be free and fair. There will be no government interference in the elections. Our constitution says about the responsibilities of the Election Commission. Administrative and law enforcement agencies under the Election Commission are also in charge of the Army Task Force. It is not under the government. The Ministry of Home Affairs then went under the Election Commission.

Regarding the BNP's movement, the minister said, "Bad language adorns the BNP's face." They have created violence in the name of movement in 2013 and 2014. People have been burned, buses have been set on fire, railway lines have been set on fire, they have even set fire to land offices. They actually want violence in the name of the movement.

"We are also ready," he added. All democratic parties have the right to carry out the movement peacefully. But if there is violence in the name of the movement and the lives and property of the people are threatened, then the Awami League will resist with the people.

The construction work of RHD with the funding of the government of Bangladesh has cost 30.95 crore taka till September. Work on the two bridges started on February 2 this year and is scheduled to be completed on February 1, 2023.

Regarding the progress of the work, the Minister said, 25 percent physical progress of this work has been completed. The contract price of the second Aminbazar bridge with five spans of 232.94 meters has been estimated at Tk 204 crore. 102 out of 140 piles of this bridge have been completed. Three of the six pile caps, one of the four piers and two of the two abutments have been completed.

On the other hand, the contract price of the second Salehpur bridge with three spans of 63.61 meters has been Tk 40.50 crore. All the work of 6 piles of this bridge has already been completed. In addition, three of the four pile caps, one of the two piers and two of the two abutments have been completed. 600 meter approach road will be constructed for Aminbazar bridge and 1400 meter approach road for Salehpur bridge.

Also present at the time were Savar Upazila Chairman Manjrul Alam Rajib, senior officials of the Roads and Highways Department, contractor Lion Mohammad Imam and many others.
