JOB Correspondent: Jagannath University (JU) has called for project proposals for allocating funds for research projects for the financial year 2021-2022. However, this allocation is only for teachers.

This information was given by the Registrar's Office of the University on Thursday (September 18). Earlier, Jagannath University Research Director Prof. A circular signed by Parimal Bala was also published on the university's website.

It has been said in the notification that in the financial year 2021-2022, funds will be allocated for the research project funded by Jagannath University. Interested researchers are specially requested to submit 2 sets of project proposals (one copy unnamed) by October 10, 2021.

It was further said that projects related to the overall development of the country and directly related to practical issues would be specially considered for financing. In this case, joint project will be given priority.

In particular, those who have not yet received the project for the 2020-2021 financial year will be able to submit project proposals, subject to the submission of the report. The proforma of the project proposal should be attached. Softcopies of Proforma can also be found on the University website.

The notification also states that a budget must be submitted on a separate page with the project proposal. The maximum budget for a single proposal is Rs. 2,00,000.00 (two lakhs). However, in case of joint ventures (only for the faculties of Science and Life and Earth Sciences) the budget can be up to Rs. 3,00,000.00 (three lakhs). The budget can be increased for projects directly related to practical issues.

In this regard, the university's director of research, Professor. Parimal Bala said that the biggest identity of the university is through research. The better the quality of research, the better the reputation of the university and the better it goes forward. Research facilities are required to increase the quality of research. Research facility of Jagannath University needs to be developed. Thoughts are afoot to set up a Central Research Laboratory.

He added that the thing that happens when it comes to conducting research is that many teachers fall into a fund crisis when it comes to completing their research. Many times it takes to buy some equipment to conduct research work. Again, science research often requires study in many places. In that case there is a separate cost. All in all a crisis is created. The research budget has been increased this year. This will reduce the problem a lot and the quality will be better.

It may be mentioned that in the academic year 2018-19, only 1 crore 25 lakh rupees was allocated for research in Jagannath University. In the 2019-20 academic year, the allocation for the research sector was Tk 1 crore 60 lakh. In the fiscal year 2020-21, the allocation for the research sector was Tk 2 crore. In the last 2021-22 financial year, a maximum of Tk 5 crore was allocated for the research sector.
