Nagarpur (Tangail) Correspondent: In Nagarpur upazila of Tangail, the local jute farmers are overwhelmed by the high selling price of the famous jute of golden fiber. At the same time, the farmers in 12 unions of the upazila have got good yield with the extensive cultivation of jute. At present, the jute fields of the entire upazila are submerged in the flood waters. At present, jute is being sold in the market at Rs 2,100 to Rs 2,600 per ounce. Farmers have never been able to sell jute at such a high price in the season before, according to local sources.

Sunny Mia, a jute farmer from Gayahata Purba Para village of the upazila, has cultivated jute on four bighas of land this year. According to him, a lot of jute was lost due to water logging in the field due to rains, but there was no damage due to good yield and we got good prices. I have already sold jute at Rs 2,600 per ounce. Talking to Subal Sarkar, a jute farmer from Senmaijhail village in Dhubria, he said he had cultivated jute on three bighas of land and sold it at Rs 2,600 a quintal. Murad Hossain Apon, a jute trader from Bharra Union, said the price of jute at this time last year was Tk 1,500. Now the price is going from Rs 2,600 to Rs 3,500. This time we have to buy jute at a higher price than last time.

Going to the ground in different areas including Nagarpur, Mokna, Pakutia, Gayhata and Dhubaria, it can be seen that the farmers are cutting jute and raising jute. This time, as there is enough rain and flood water, they are doing the work of waking up and removing the fibers in the jute field. Farmers say jute is a rain-fed crop. There was no problem in waking up the jute due to heavy rains during jute harvesting and transportation cost has been saved. This time the cost is much less than other times. According to the Tangail District Agriculture Extension Office, jute production has exceeded the target set in the entire district this season. In Nagarpur Upazila alone, jute has been cultivated in 1,383 hectares of land this time.

Nagarpur Upazila Agriculture Officer Abdul Matin Biswas said, "Jute has got good yield in Nagarpur this time and farmers are getting good price and the target of jute production has been achieved." Like Nagarpur, the golden age of jute seems to have returned to the homes of farmers all over the country, farmers are getting fair price by selling jute in the market. Lots of jute is growing in the village market. It is desirable that there should be a smile on the face of the farmers in the country with our glorious agricultural products.
