Kurigram Correspondent: Mostafa Kamal, son of Chaidul Haque Master of Hat village of Taltola board in Nageshwari upazila of Kurigram, is dreaming of changing his fortune by cultivating Bari-1 variety Malta on his 1 bigha land for the first time. Cultivation of this juicy fruit has added a new dimension to meet the nutritional needs and increase the income of the farmers. The Department of Agricultural Extension (Nageshwari) Kurigram is promoting Malta cultivation through safe supervision and distribution of saplings at the field level. Maltese farming is becoming popular day by day.

Mostafa Kamal has plotted the Bari-1 Malta exhibition on the advice of the Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer. He knows that Malta can be self-sufficient by farming. He then took the initiative to cultivate Malta. He first started gardening with 41 saplings. Maltese saplings and fertilizers are provided free of cost by the Agriculture Office to encourage his work. He has spent about 1 lakh rupees in 2 years in Malta farming.

Besides Malta, he has already earned around Rs 50,000 by cultivating guava, chilli, papaya and vegetables as companion crops. The combination of green malt across the garden attracts everyone's attention at the moment. The stalks of each tree are bent under the weight of this green juicy fruit. Every tree is covered with Malta. This malt is green in color. The taste and smell is no less than the orange malt. It is expected to be marketed in a few days. Mostafa Kamal has a smile of satisfaction on his face as the yield is good. He is dreaming of benefiting from this.

Nageshwari Agriculture Officer Shahriar Hossain said Malta has been cultivated in about 20-25 hectares of land in Nageshwari. Necessary advice is being given from the agriculture office. It is a native green variety of Malta. Malta is high in vitamin C. Educated unemployed youth can become self-sufficient by cultivating Malta and it is possible to cultivate Malta along with other occupations.

Nageshwari Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer SM Masud Rana said, “We are 99% successful in Malta cultivation. Vitamin C deficiency will be met and our country will get rid of the imported money and the country will gradually succeed in cultivating green Malta inshallah.
