Isuru Udana, another Sri Lankan all-rounder, retired suddenly

Sports Desk: Sri Lankan cricket has been in turmoil for months due to differences between the top cricketers over the central contract with the board. Adding to this is the decision to abruptly retire the regular cricketers of the team.

Isuru Udana, another all-rounder, has decided to quit international cricket after star all-rounder Thisara Perera in May. The left-arm pace bowling all-rounder informed the cricket board of his decision in a letter on Friday.

Despite leaving international cricket, Udana, 33, will continue to play domestic cricket. He will also play in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) cricket, which starts in late August.

Udana did not mention the reason behind the decision to retire in a hurry. However, it is believed that he made this decision out of a desire to spend more time with his family.

In a statement issued by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, Udana said, "I believe it is time to make room for the next generation of players. Being able to play and serve for my country has always been a place of great pride for me. '

The Sri Lankan cricket team is shocked by Udana's decision to retire. He has been a regular face in Sri Lanka's limited-overs squad for the past three years, overcoming injuries. He also played two T20s and one ODI in the recently concluded series against India. He played in all three Twenty20 tours of England in June.

Udanara started his career in international cricket through the 2009 T20 World Cup. However, he has been an integral part of the national team since 2016.

He had a special need in the Sri Lankan team for his brilliant bowling, great fielding and effective batting at the bottom. In the T20 match against South Africa in 2019, he surprised everyone by playing an innings of 74 runs from 48 balls.

In all, Isuru Udana has played 21 ODIs and 35 Twenty20 Internationals. He took 45 wickets in two formats with the ball and scored 493 runs in two fifties.
