Crowds of Shimulia passengers in hostile weather

News Desk: Hundreds of people are still crossing the Padma on the Shimulia-Banglabazar route in hostile weather without heeding the restrictions. Apart from emergency vehicles, private cars and people were seen getting on the ferry from dawn on Friday (July 30).

It can be seen on the ground that there is pressure on the Dhaka-bound passengers coming from Banglabazar to Shimuliaghat. Although police checkposts and mobile courts have been set up in the ghat area, passengers are leaving for Dhaka with various excuses. Meanwhile, no one was seen following the hygiene rules at the ghats and ferries. Passengers are getting off the ferry in small and big vehicles and leaving for their destination. They have to pay two to three times more rent. Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Shimulia Ghat Assistant Manager.

Mahbub said, "There are 9 small and big ferries operating on the route." The ferry is open only at the emergency car crossing. The vehicles coming for the crossing do not have to wait long as there is no traffic pressure at the wharf. ' Louhjong Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Kauser Hamid said, "People are coming to the ghat with various excuses. If they try to cross the river for unreasonable reasons, they are being returned. '
