The 15 kg Katla fish caught from Halda was rescued and sent to the lab

Chittagong's Hathazari Upazila administration has rescued a 15-kg mother catfish from Halda River, the only natural fish breeding center for fertilized eggs in the world.

The fish was recovered from Mozaffarpur area of ​​Mekhal Union in the upazila on Thursday (July 15). The fish was handed over to the Halda River Research Laboratory of Chittagong University (CU) on Friday (July 18).

 

 

Hathazari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shahidul Alam said, ‘A group of unscrupulous gangs hunts the mother fish with a fishing rod. I got the news that I was trying to sell the fish. When the operation was carried out immediately, the accused left the fish and fled. The fish was rescued around 11 pm on Thursday. It was handed over to the Chittagong University (CU) Research Center on Friday morning.

 

Halda expert and professor of zoology at Chabir. Manjurul Kibria said, ‘The mother fish weighs 15 kg. Length 40 inches and height 13 inches. The fish will be more than six years old. At present, the fish has been stored in the Halda River Research Laboratory in Chabir.
